Annual Fund 2008-2009

Seventh Grade Appeal

Several years ago we started hearing about the extraordinary reputation of Santa Barbara Middle School. Our dream was that someday we might be able to give our child the educational experience that we would have wanted for ourselves.

Now the dream is a reality and we are truly thankful. Jonathan, our 7th grade child, could not be happier at SBMS. He relishes the trips, the sunrise “Carpe Diem” swims, his afternoon and Friday electives, and even academic classes. This summer he proclaimed to a neighbor, “School is better than summer!” How often would a parent expect to hear that phrase from a twelve year-old?

Each and every student benefits from what SBMS has to offer - its rich academics, amazing electives, outdoor education and community involvement. It is a haven for children, a place to build confidence and calm adolescent angst, a place where everyone feels important with a strong sense of connectedness, a place where there is ample support by adults and teachers who understand and support our children and, lastly, a place that gives our children the tools with which to discover themselves and their strengths.

As you all know, this year’s theme is “Plan to Attend, Plan to Succeed.” There are many aspects of this school that help our children to succeed: the teachers who nurture our children and give them the tools to learn; the staff who keeps the school running and plans the trips;, and us, the parents. An integral part of the success of SBMS results from the generous donations of time and money to the Annual Fund by the families, friends, relatives and alumni of our beloved school. The Annual Fund pays for important programs at SBMS and provides financial assistance to families who would not be able to attend otherwise.

This year the Annual Fund goal is to raise $260,000 and $378,000 total. I urge you to donate as generously as possible through tax-deductible gifts, time and talent. We all want our children to have a sense of being part of something larger than oneself, to make good choices for themselves, their community and the world.

Now it is your turn. Our kids are the future! Thanks, in advance, for your participation and generosity towards the Annual Fund.

Sincerely,

David and Angela Beardon
